Dana White: King of MMA by June White Blog Tour Guest Post/Interview

One cannot deny the immense popularity of Dana White in the MMA community and business world. Dana has millions of fans around the world; he has been invited to speak at Oxford University in England, Harvard University and at Bill Gates yearly conference of the world’s 200 most noteworthy individuals. Dana has made himself a multimillionaire before the age of forty, and has received many awards since taking over as President of the UFC, but who is this individual.

Who is Dana White? What is known about Dana White outside of what he tells the media about himself?

This is a biography of Dana White, no myths, no lies, no tales, nothing but the truth about the boy, the man, the king, the dictator.

GUEST POST:
Most of us have heard of the story of Faust or some variation of it. Faust unhappy with his life and the limited things he has makes a deal with the devil. An arrangement where he wants more from life and exchanges his soul, (his moral integrity) to achieve the things he longs for and are out of reach for him. He cares more about power, success and worldly pleasures and is willing to trade his soul to have them.

If this were truly an option for you to choose today how many would take the deal? If offered all the things money and power could provide you in your life now and for the next 24 years would you think it worth the final outcome? The final outcome being eternal damnation, your soul spending eternity in the fires of hell.

In this situation there is no debate over whether heaven and hell exist. The devil has approached Faust and offered him everything he could possibly want while alive; would you consider it? Would you take a determined amount of time on earth with unlimited money, power, and success?

The difference with this tale and people today who have attained these things in their life; money, power and success, is many of them don’t carry a strong faith and believe there is a heaven or hell. That what they have and do now is all there is, no consequences for their actions, once given to the earth that is our end. So at what cost are we willing to attain these things?

Money, houses, cars and other material possessions may be part of your life but is integrity, character and a sense of duty worth more than all of that? Should you take time to make a difference, to realize and understand relationships are more important than accomplishments if you’ve allowed those to take a back seat to material possessions. That a persons character is worth much more than power, money and success.

At what point is the cost too great?

I know from personal experience what my answer would be.

INTERVIEW:
1. If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?

Into the future, you would be going into the unknown, a bit of a scary thought, adrenaline would definitely be pumping. Author’s Note:
I have written a book about my son, Dana White who is owner of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). As many of you know, my son has created a fan base of millions in the United States and around the world. Under my son’s leadership, the very sport of mixed martial arts has emerged into an international billion dollar enterprise in a very short period of time.
I could really use some help picking a new title for my book. It is an unauthorized biography that speaks of many aspects of my son’s life. The book chronicles who Dana used to be, where he came from and the person he has ultimately become. Please submit your entries HERE.

GUEST POST:
3 Top Challenges Non-Fiction Writers Face
By Rachel Thompson

Write something you’d never show your mother or father ~ Lorrie Moore, author.

As a nonfiction essayist, I basically write short stories that are not stories in the classical sense; it’s more my views on the experiences I’ve had or observed in others. I’ve been writing all types of pieces since I was a child, but now I mostly wrote short stories, journals, or articles (though I am working on an literary erotica anthology and a new work of fiction). Writing nonfiction comes easy to me.

There are three basic challenges I face in this genre:

1. Most people love fiction (me, too!)
2. Criticism for sharing intimate moments
3. Marketing issues
Let’s deconstruct.
Fiction: Most readers are looking for an escape. Why do you think Romance is the number one selling genre? It’s like Disney all grown up, with sex and stuff.
As a nonfiction writer, I still get to write about that stuff (if I choose), but getting people to look at my books can be a real challenge, when what they’re really after is the next Fifty Shades of Whatever.
On the other hand, there have never been as many blogs as there are now – that says something very intriguing to me about what people want to read. We DO want real stories; we DO want real characters; we DO relate to universal truths.

Which leads me to my next point…

Criticism: When I wrote my first book A Walk In The Snark, I wanted to show the arc of comedy to tragedy. I never planned the book to be all humor--just more my take on different life situations; but then it just so happened during the writing of it an ex-lover tragically killed himself. I used my writing as a way to express the shock and grief I felt over his death. Always a survivor, the word took on a decidedly different meaning after that.
I expect people to not like my work, because these are my experiences, opinions, and books, right? Not to take away from the many people who loved it (and reached out to me privately as survivors themselves); to have touched them in a way that made them both laugh and cry is extraordinarily meaningful to me.

And yet…some people felt I exploited his death for sympathy, to sell more books, to make more money. And they are certainly entitled to think that. And that’s okay. But I think, for any nonfiction writer, we have to know that people will object to our content, particularly if their values are different. A nonfiction writer, or any writer really, needs to know that people will have opinions about our truth.
(Interestingly, my next book is not humor at all. It’s about the arc, if you will, many women (including me) experience as we grow: fear, desire, love, loss, grief, and then, trust and deeper love.)
Marketing: You’d think that marketing nonfiction books would be easier than fiction, but I find it difficult at times (and I’m a marketer, too!). In fiction, you have characters and a story line people latch onto. In nonfiction, I basically become the main character by default; ergo, everything I say and do creates a persona that people assume is real. For example, I mention Prada shoes in my book as a literary device for something women desire, which people instead, took quite literally.

Again, that’s okay. I’m not here to defend myself to anyone. My point is that finding my brand, understanding what naturally drives and interests me, is what I endeavor to convey to people. And sometimes I fail, clearly. But when you’re marketing your books about personal experiences, it can be hard to be objective.
That’s why I recommend every writer have critique partners, a great editor, proofreader, graphic artist, and formatter (unless you know how to do that).

Allow people to help you through these challenges. In the end, we’re all better off for it.

Engage in the difficult work – I’m not saying take shortcuts because letting others help you takes courage and last time I checked, asking for feedback is never, ever easy.
In good work, there are no shortcuts.

Image of Rachel ThompsonINTERVIEW:1. If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?

My maternal grandmother and grandfather (since they’ve both passed) so I could introduce them to my children; Steve Martin because he’s brilliant; John Irving and Lorrie Moore; David and Amy Sedaris. Wait, that’s 7. Oh well.

2. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

Does family count as a thing? Okay, then my family. A generator. A satellite phone. (The last two are awfully boring and practical, I know. But hey, I watched LOST).

3. What is one book everyone should read?

The World According To Garp by John Irving. It’s got everything: love, sadness, romance, death, parenting, sports…honestly, how can anyone not want to read it?

4. If you were a superhero what would your name be?

Nutella Girl

5. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

I want to twitch my nose like Bewitched and have dinner made, home clean, kids bathed, and my next book written. Does that make me a witch? Er, oops.

6. What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?

Coffee.

7. Night owl, or early bird?

Definitely night owl. Mornings and I do not get along.
8. One food you would never eat?

Anything that’s not normally thought of as food: bugs, cats or dogs, etc. That’s just disgusting.
9. Pet Peeves?

When people spell a lot as alot. Do they not know? This is a total mystery. Well, that and why coconut exists. Blech. (Someone once called it tongue hair, which I think describes it so well.)

10. Skittles or M&Ms?

Mmmm. Chocolate.

11. Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.

Well, I have two books and my third comes out in a few months; I write with pure honesty, which is meant to pull out emotions we don’t acknowledge. (Is a semi-colon ok?)

12. Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?

Besides my next book, Broken Pieces, I’m also working with author Pavarti K. Tyler and my editor, Jessica Swift Eldridge, on a literary erotica anthology. Then comes my next book in the Chronicles of Snark trilogy, titled Chickspeak: Uncovered.
13. What inspired you to want to become a writer?

When I was nine, my fourth grade teacher read us The Secret Garden. That was it. I was hooked.

14. Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.

In my first book, A Walk In The Snark, I write about love, loss, relationships, etc. I also share my grief upon finding out a former lover committed suicide. One of my readers contacted me privately to share their grief when they suddenly lost their spouse the same way. That was when I knew I had done the right thing.

15. Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?

I’m still pretty obsessed with Poe’s album Haunted. Her songs Control and Amazed are my favorites.
16. What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?

Just do it. We can always find excuses not to, but if you love writing, you can’t help it. It pours out of you. Edit later. Just get it down.

17. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Italy; but I’d have to be able to also eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight, a la Defending Your Life.

18. What's the best advice anyone has ever given you?

I quote Lorrie Moore a lot: ‘Write something you’d never show your mother or father.’ It’s incredibly freeing.
19. Hidden talent?

Piano. I took for eight years.

20. Favorite Food?

Anything ethnic: Asian, Indian, Mexican. You get the idea.

21. Favorite Candy?

Gumballs!

22. How do you react to a bad review?

Just move on. Don’t take it personally. I think 1-stars actually give validity to our work. I don’t like everyone I meet just as they won’t like me. Why should books be any different? Free speech, man. AND: people are reading my work. Always a plus!

23. You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?

A room of my own for writing. Where nobody can bother me!

24. Which authors have influenced you most & how?

Lorrie Moore for sure – she’s a brilliant short story author. And David Sedaris – he writes what we really think but are afraid to say, in ways that make you laugh and cry.

25. What do you do in your free time?

Read. Kinda boring, I know.

26. What's your favorite season/weather?

Fall. Love the leaves changing and bundling up to stay warm.

27. What is your guilty pleasure?

It’s a toss up between a perfect dirty martini and … no, that’s about it.

28. What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you'd be embarrassed to admit?

I love the British show, Skins. It’s real, the kids are messed up, the parents are even worse -- but it’s awesome.

29. Finish the sentence- one book I wish I had written is...

The Time-Traveler’s Wife. Brilliant book; horrible movie. I reread it every year.
30. Favorite places to travel? +

Europe.

31. Favorite music?

Rock. All forms. And soundscores (the music that accompanies a film), especially by Thomas Newman. Everything he writes is amazing.

Transcend by Christine Fonseca Blog Tour Character Guest Post

SYNOPSIS:
All seventeen-year-old composer Ien Montgomery desires is an escape from his family's rigid expectations for his life; someone to inspire his music. When he meets a beautiful violin-prodigy, Kiera McDougal, his life music takes on new life. With her, he imagines a future outside of his parents’ control. That is, until a horrible accident tears them apart.

Sent to die in a sanatorium, Ien’s obsession for Kiera grows unbearable. Tortured by thoughts he can’t escape and the truth of his monstrous disfigurement, he flees, desperate to exact revenge on the people that ruined his life – his parents. But, vengeance is empty. Betrayed by those closest to him, Ien discovers that the price for his happiness may be his sanity.

Set amidst the landscape of New York's Gilded Age, and inspired by Phantom of the Opera, TRANSCEND exposes the fine line between love and madness.

GUEST POST BY IEN:
Ien answers a reader-inspired question: What happens for you now, given what you’ve been through?

Ien – welcome to my tour for Transcend. I am so glad you could join me today. I though you could talk a little about your future plans; specifically, given everything you’ve been through, what happens now?

What happens now—that is the question, isn’t it? I suppose I have to accept everything that has happened. Everything I’ve become. And I guess I need to move forward. In truth, there are a few loose ends that I feel need cleaning up; some “issues” I still must contend with. And then there is my music. I have nothing to stop me from composing now.
[Ien stops and touches his face]

Well, almost nothing. Still, I don’t need to be handsome to write. So that is what I will do, write music. Get lost in my dreams, my fantasies. What else is there for me, really? And the issues…the tasks I must complete, I will do those too. It’s the only way for me to move forward.

The only way.

The Book of Paul by Richard Long Blog Tour Review

Please enjoy this review of The Book of Paul. Then read on to learn how you can win huge prizes as part of this blog tour, including a Kindle Fire, $300 in Amazon gift cards, 5 autographed copies of the book, and a look into your future through a free tarot reading performed by the author.

SYNPOSIS:

"Never alive...and never dead."

In the rubble-strewn wasteland of Alphabet City, a squalid tenement conceals a treasure "beyond all imagining"--an immaculately preserved, fifth century codex. The sole repository of ancient Hermetic lore, it contains the authentic alchemical rituals for transforming thought into substance, transmuting matter at will...and attaining eternal life.

When a lusty, East Village tattoo artist has a torrid encounter with a battle-hardened loner, they are overwhelmed by the intensity of their feelings. Rose and Martin soon discover they are unwitting pawns on opposing sides of a battle that has shaped the course of human history. At the center of the conflict is Paul, the villainous overlord of an underground feudal society, who guards the book's occult secrets in preparation for the fulfillment of an apocalyptic prophecy.

The action is relentless as Martin and Rose fight to escape Paul's clutches and Martin's destiny as the chosen recipient of Paul's sinister legacy. Science and magic, mythology and technology converge in a monumental battle where the stakes couldn't be higher: control of the ultimate power in the universe--the Maelstrom.

The Book of Paul is the first of seven volumes in a sweeping mythological narrative tracing the mystical connections between Hermes Trismegistus in ancient Egypt, Sophia, the female counterpart of Christ, and the Celtic druids of Clan Kelly.

MY THOUGHTS:
This book was INTENSE!! I'm so glad that I decided to review it for this tour!! The large page count (488!) was a bit scary at first, but this story needs EVERY one of those pages to be told! This is a book that you actually have to r-e-a-d. You can't just speed read through it, scanning the pages for hints of what's going on. The story line is so well developed and the characters are so relate-able that you can't help but be sucked in from the first lines. Now with that said, this IS an adult book and there are some very descriptive scenes (especially in the first couple of chapters...) but, in my opinion, that does not detract from the tale at all. In fact, I would say that those scenes are needed and only add to the wow factor of the book. So, if you want a fast paced, crazy scary yet fantasy-like read, then this book is for you!  This is one carnival ride you DON'T want to miss ;)

The Hungry Heart by Brenda Gayle Blog Tour Review/Excerpt

SYNOPSIS:
Child advocate Nora Cross doesn't have time for the private cooking lesson her sister won at a charity auction. Hunter Graham, the young chef, is the last person she needs telling her she's forgotten how to have fun. So why can't she get the very hot, very eligible man off her mind?

After a stellar debut in New York City, Hunter's back in Santa Fe to open a new restaurant. He lives a charmed life and he knows it. He isn't interested in a workaholic who's glued to her smart phone. So why is he trying to convince Nora to relax and enjoy life—with him?

When Nora's apartment and office are ransacked, Hunter comes to her rescue, surprised to find himself playing knight-in-shining-armor to the uptight executive. But when it becomes clear Nora is no random target, Hunter realizes he'll do anything to keep her safe.

MY THOUGHTS:
This book had me laughing through the night! I'm glad that I was able to review it for this tour. Throughout the story the main characters, Nora and Hunter, are thrown into various situations that happen in the real life dating scene. I loved how the author kept the story line so "real." It was refreshing to read this face paced, witty and fantastically fun romance. The author captures the characters so well that you are left in awe of the story that just played out before your eyes! I can't wait to see what happens in the rest of this trilogy! If you love a well written romance, this book is for you ;)

EXCERPT:
Whoever said a cold shower could cool your ardor didn’t know what they were talking about. Ten minutes of standing under freezing cold water had turned Nora’s skin blue, but it had done nothing to dampen her desire.

“Agh!” She allowed free rein to her frustration, not caring whether or not the running water covered her scream.
She turned off the faucet and sat on the edge of the tub. This was so unfair.

They had come so close. Hunter had wanted her—seemingly as much as she wanted him. She still wasn’t quite sure what went wrong.

Dammit, I should never have agreed to stay for dinner. This was her fault.

It wasn’t that she was in love with Hunter. She was too smart to allow that to happen. But she had made up her mind, made a decision that she would allow herself some pleasure—and why not? Then having done so, she had set out to try to make it happen. Not that she would have seduced him or done anything quite so bold. She’d just decided that she wouldn’t pass up any opportunities that came her way.

She knew he found her attractive. He had said as much, demonstrated it, too. He wasn’t a saint, and given his reputation it wasn’t unreasonable to expect him to make a move on her while they were sharing the same suite.

Only now they weren’t.

She inhaled deeply and willed away the threatening tears. No, she wouldn’t cry for him. It was only sex. She shouldn’t allow herself to feel this much anguish over one night.

She stood and towel-dried her hair. It was probably for the best, anyway. What was the point of one night of mindless sex?

She thought about Taylor and wondered what her relationship with Hunter had been like. Was she in love with him? Or had the sex been that good? Whatever the reason, the woman was still crazy about him, although he seemed to have little interest in renewing what they’d had.

Nora rubbed the condensation off the mirror and stared at the face looking back at her. She tried to be objective, but all she could see was a woman about to turn thirty-five. Tiny lines were beginning to form at the corners of her eyes—he’d called their color café noir when they’d first met—and there were more lines just above her top lip.
Her age had never bothered her—in fact, she’d always felt she’d accomplished a lot while still quite young—at least professionally. But dammit, it would be nice to experience fantastic sex at least once before I’m thirty-five.

What was it about turning thirty-five that disturbed her so much? It was just a number.

Her lips were a rosy pink and slightly swollen. She touched them gently, remembering the feel of Hunter’s mouth as it grazed hers, and then the hard urgency with which he had kissed her in the garage.

Stop it.

She turned away, frustrated. This was getting her nowhere.

Forget it. Forget him. None of it mattered anyway. Tomorrow morning she’d be back in her real world, and all this would be nothing but a memory.

She heard a noise and paused to listen more intently. Was that banging?

She slipped on a robe—the scratchy generic one provided by the hotel, not at all like the luxurious plush one she’d borrowed from Hunter—and opened the bathroom door.

Yes, someone was definitely pounding on her door.

“Who’s there?” she called, tightening the belt of the robe.

“Room service.”

What? “I didn’t—”

She stepped up on her toes to peek out the peephole. Her knees felt like jelly and she leaned against the door, closing her eyes and murmuring a heartfelt “thank goodness.” Then she looked again to make absolutely certain her eyes weren’t playing tricks on her.
Hunter was magnificent in a fresh pair of dark khaki pants and a red golf shirt. His hair looked damp, as if he had just stepped out of a shower, too. In one hand he balanced a platter, covered by a large silver lid. He was impatiently shuffling from one foot to the other.
She pulled open the door and stepped back, waiting.
Hunter’s eyes widened and then he dropped his gaze to take in her bare toes. Slowly he raised his head. His appraisal of her was slow and intense. She felt exposed, and rubbed her palms against the fabric of the robe just to assure herself she had actually put one on. When he got to her face he paused, and then broke into his seductive, heart-stopping grin.

“I see you’re expecting me,” he said.

Shallow by Georgia Cates Release Day Blitz!!

SYNOPSIS:
Nick Hawke likes his car fast and his girls even faster. He blows through females quicker than his muscle car races down the drag strip in Collinsville and he wouldn’t have it any other way. Determined to avoid the devastation he has watched his father endure in the aftermath of his mother leaving, he believes there is no room in his life or his heart for a relationship lasting more than one night. He seeks happiness in things that won’t let him down...fast cars, parties and one night stands. To his absolute dismay, all of that changes when he unexpectedly runs into an old friend and is introduced to Payton Archer, the first girl he ever wanted for more than one night. There’s only one catch...she is completely immune to him and his smooth talking ways.

Payton Archer is looking for what Claire has with Jessie, but she has given up on finding it...at least until she leaves for college in the Fall because she is certain that is where she will find the perfect guy to fit into her perfect world. She plans on Summer being nothing but three uneventful months of fun, but it turns out to be anything but ordinary when Payton is introduced to Nick Hawke, one of Jessie’s old Collinsville friends. She is shocked by her immediate and intense attraction for “Hawke” because nothing about him is what Payton is looking for. Sure, he’s hot and sexy but he comes from Collinsville and that is definitely not on her list of prerequisites. Everything about him makes Payton’s heart speed because he is exciting and dangerous, but his fast car and the dangerous chances he takes isn’t what scares Payton the most...it’s the way Nick Hawke makes her feel every time he looks at her. Can Payton find that moment of total fearlessness and make the decision to leave the safe, shallow end of love to risk going under completely?

EXCERPT:
You tell your children not to be afraid. You tell them everything will be all right. You tell them Mommy and Daddy will always be there. You tell them lies.

Paul looked out the filthy window and watched the little girl playing in the filthier street below. Hopscotch. He didn’t think kids played hopscotch anymore. Not in this neighborhood. Hip-hopscotch, maybe.

“Hhmph! What do you think about that?”

Paul watched the little black girl toss her pebble or cigarette butt or whatever it was to square number five, then expertly hop, hop, hop her way safely to the square and back. She was dressed in a clean, fresh, red-gingham dress with matching red bows in her neatly braided pigtails. She looked so fresh and clean and happy that he wondered what she was doing on this shithole street.

The girl was playing all by herself. Hop, hop, hop. Hop, hop, hop. She was completely absorbed in her hopping and scotching and Paul was equally absorbed watching every skip and shuffle. No one walked by and only a single taxi ruffled the otherworldly calm.

Paul leaned closer, his keen ears straining to pick up the faint sound of her shiny leather shoes scraping against the grimy concrete. He focused even more intently and heard the even fainter lilt of her soft voice. Was she singing? He pressed his ear against the glass and listened. Sure enough, she was singing. Paul smiled and closed his eyes and let the sound pour into his ear like a rich, fragrant wine.

“One, two, buckle my shoe. Three, four, shut the door…”

He listened with his eyes closed. Her soft sweet voice rose higher and higher until…the singing suddenly stopped. Paul’s eyes snapped open. The girl was gone. He craned his neck quickly to the left and saw her being pulled roughly down the street. The puller was a large, light-skinned black man, tugging on her hand/arm every two seconds like he was dragging a dog by its leash. At first, he guessed that the man was her father, a commodity as rare in this part of town as a fresh-scrubbed girl playing hopscotch. Then he wondered if he wasn’t her father after all. Maybe he was one of those kinds of men, one of those monsters that would take a sweet, pure thing to a dark, dirty place and…

And do whatever a monster like that wanted to do.

Paul pressed his face against the glass and caught a last fleeting glance of the big brown man and the tiny red-checkered girl. He watched the way he yanked on her arm, how he shook his finger, how he stooped down to slap her face and finally concluded that he was indeed her one and only Daddy dear. Who else would dare to act that way in public?

“Kids!” Paul huffed. “The kids these days!”

He laughed loud enough to rattle the windows. Then his face hardened by degrees as he pictured the yanking daddy and the formerly happy girl. Hmmm, maybe he was one of those prowling monsters after all. Paul shuddered at the thought of what a man like that would do. He imagined the scene unfolding step by step, grunting as the vision became more and more precise. “Hhmph!” he snorted after a particularly gruesome imagining. “What kind of a bug could get inside your brain and make you do a thing like that?”

“Monsters! Monsters!” he shouted, rambling back into the wasteland of his labyrinthine apartments, twisting and turning through the maze of lightless hallways as if being led by a seeing-eye dog. He walked and turned and walked some more, comforted as always by the darkness. Finally, he came to a halt and pushed hard against a wall.

His hidden sanctuary opened like Ali Baba’s cave, glowing with the treasures it contained. He stepped inside and saw the figure resting (well, not exactly resting) between the flickering candles. At the sound of his footsteps, the body on the altar twitched frantically. Paul moved closer, rubbing a smooth fingertip across the wet, trembling skin and raised it to his lips. It tasted like fear. He gazed down at the man, his eyes moving slowly from his ashen face to the rusty nails holding him so firmly in place. The warm, dark blood shining on the wooden altar made him think about the red-gingham bunny again.

“Monsters,” he said, more softly this time, wishing he weren’t so busy. As much as he would enjoy it, there simply wasn’t enough time to clean up this mess, prepare for his guests and track her down. Well, not her, precisely. Her angry tugging dad. Not that Paul had any trouble killing little girls, you understand. It just wasn’t his thing. Given a choice, he would much rather kill her father. And make her watch.

Payne & Misery by Catherine Leggitt

SYNOPSIS:
All that glitters is not gold for Christine Sterling. The luster of her shiny Golden Years dream fades when Christine's newly retired husband, Jesse, becomes obsessed with a hobby requiring extra time away from her.

Christine develops a bad reputation for conjuring wild tales and being chief complainer. Then she meets someone who has true reason to complain, if anyone does.

Lila Payne's life is the mirror opposite of ideal. The plight of this seemingly abused woman gnaws at Christine, but the authorities turn a deaf ear to Christine's pleas for help on Lila's behalf. Spurred into action when her beloved dog Molly and Lila both disappear on the same night, Christine dives into a scary pool swirling with muddy secrets and misery. Sensing God at work in the situation Christine continues to search and pray, but even with God's help, can they save Lila and Molly before it's too late?

MY THOUGHTS:
I really enjoyed this cozy little mystery! Christine definitely has a wild imagination and comes up with some of the most uncanny ideas, least of which is spying on her neighbor. Her curious nature and witty comments keep you giggling throughout the book and have you wondering what else she can get herself into. I love the author's writing style and can't wait to see what happens in book two, The Dunn Deal. If you like comical mysteries, this book is for you :)

Dirty Blood by Heather Hildenbrand Blog Tour Review/Interview/Character Interview/Giveaway

SYNOPSIS:

I killed a girl last night. I did it with my bare hands and an old piece of pipe I found lying next to the dumpster. But that’s not the part that got me. The part that scared me, the part I can’t seem to wrap my head around and still has me reeling, was that when she charged me, her body shifted – and then she was a wolf. All snapping teeth and extended claws. But by the time I stood over her lifeless body, she was a girl again. That’s about the time I went into shock… And that was the moment he showed up.

Now, all I can do is accept the truths that are staring me in the face. One, Werewolves do exist. And Two, I was born to kill them.

MY THOUGHTS:

I really enjoyed getting to know Tara and Wes in this story. The author was able to portray them in a way that you wanted to jump in the story and be right along with them. While there are some similarities to other "popular" books out there, you have to ask if there really is an "original" idea left out there? Now with that said, I have to say that this is definitely a unique twist on the everyday shapeshifting werewolf story. The author weaves a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat, grasping the metaphorical pages (since I'm reading it in ebook format ;) ) and making you read every. last. word. I can't wait to see what happens in Book 2, Cold Blood!!

CHARACTER INTERVIEW WITH GEORGE:
• How do you feel about your family, now that you’re an adult?

Huh. I guess I am an adult … I miss my family. I’m hoping I can see them soon.

• What do you want from life?

I thought I knew before … all this. Now, I don’t know. Be happy, I guess.

• What three things would you take to a Desert Island?

A football, a jet ski, and a pretty girl.

• In your relationship with others, how are you different with family than you are with friends? Why?

My friends are the only ones who know the real me, anymore. I trust them with my life.

• How do you fall in love? At first sight? Over a long period?

*laughs* Tara and I go way back, so I guess I’d have to say it was gradual. But once I knew, I knew.

• What parts of loving come easy for you? Hard?

Letting go is hard. Most right choices usually are.

• When you walk into a room, what do you notice first? Second?

The new me notices scent first. Whether I mean to, or not. And scent can give away a lot. Even tension in the air has a feel to it. I’m getting better and better at reading that.
• Is one sense more highly developed than another? (Are you more visual, or audial, etc, or do you rely on the famous sixth sense?)

Like I said, my sense of smell is pretty strong, but everything’s magnified. Sight and touch, too. *grins* It’s pretty awesome.

• Did you turn out the way you expected? The way your parents predicted?

*laughs* Uh, I think it’s safe to say I turned out nothing like they expected. They just don’t know it.

• What really moves you, or touches you to the soul?

Music. A good song can make you feel a certain way or make you remember something you’ve tried to forget.

• What do you consider your special talent?

Reading Tara. I haven’t figured out if that’s good or bad yet.

• What are you most proud of about your life?

The people in it. Family and friends. I couldn’t ask for a better group.

• What's the worst thing you've ever done? Why?

*sIgh* I kissed a girl at a school dance that I shouldn’t have. I don’t know why I did it. I wasn’t thinking. I don’t even like her but she said some things and got my head all twisted around and … I only kissed her back for a second. But damn, I guess that’s all it takes when you have an audience.

• What are you most afraid of?

Never seeing my family again.

• What's the most important thing in your life? What do you value most?

Life itself. There was a time I thought I wasn’t going to make it. I almost didn’t. Everything feels sweeter now, sharper, more exciting. I’m embracing that.

• How do you feel about your life right now?

What, if anything, would you like to change?
• What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Two months ago, I would’ve said a football scholarship. Now … not dying.

• What is your greatest regret?

Not being honest with myself about my own feelings.

• What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Losing someone you love … I’ve seen it and I can’t imagine what it would feel like.

• What is the quality you most like in a man?

Honesty.

• What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Same.

• What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

I don’t think things through to the consequences.

• What do you most value in your friends?

Loyalty

• Who is your favorite hero of fiction?

Superman
• Which living person do you most admire?

Tara Godfrey
• How would you like to die?

Living. I don’t want to sit back and let life happen, I want to live it with whatever time I have left.

• If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?

I feel almost like that’s already happened.

• What is your motto?

We may only have today.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW:
1. If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?

Future, for sure. I don’t want to go back. The past should stay behind me.

2. If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?

Hmm… Jesus, Phillip Phillips (from American Idol because his voice does things to me. Hmm probably not a great idea if Jesus is there.) Cassandra Clare, Richelle Mead, LMFAO (although that’s more than one person), Olivia Newton John ß for the hubs and so we can sing Grease together … although I think that puts us over the limit. Geez, this is a hard question!

3. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

My cell phone (it has a kindle app), moisturizer, and a hair tie (the frizz would be out of control in that humidity!!)

4. What is one book everyone should read?

The Forever King by Warren Murphy (“To arms, To arms!”)

5. If you were a superhero what would your name be?

 The Slug Slayer

6. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

To not be afraid of slugs. Okay, no seriously? Flying. Hands down.

7. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Chocolate Fudge Brownie

8. If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?

My son, Tyler

9. What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?

Coffee

10. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I don’t know if it’s a quirk or a flaw but I use the words “like” and “just” a lot. I am always editing them out, lest all my characters sound like 10th grade cheerleaders.

11. Night owl, or early bird?

Night owl, only because I HATE getting out of bed! Doesn’t matter how early I go to sleep, I still have to drag my ass out of bed each morning. Once I’m up, I’m good to go.

12. One food you would never eat?

Monkey brains. Unless I became a zombie.

13. Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.

Hottie McNaughty Werewolf Boys.

14. Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?

I’m finishing up the conclusion of DreamKiller – my adult urban fantasy series. There are two parts out now, but when I’m done, I will compile it all into one novella. It’s pretty badass. Think X-men meets Heroes. The heroine was inspired by Kate Beckinsale in Underworld. (see?? Told ya’, badass!)

15. What inspired you to want to become a writer?

Tragedy. I know that might sound strange but something devastating happened in my personal life a few years ago and my mind was so full of grief and overwhelming anger and emotion that I would’ve gone crazy without some sort of outlet. Writing became that outlet for me. It still is.

16. Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.

I went to Nashville for UtopYA Con this past July and it ROCKED! Not only because I got to meet a lot of my writer buds BUT I got to meet READERS! That was so cool! Especially Alli -- who basically told me she drove there just for me. How cool is that!?

17. If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?

Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. Where I would proceed to steal Jace from Clary. He’d be like “Clary who?”
18. What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?

The Hobbit… did you SEE that the movie is coming??????? AHHHHHH!!!!! ß a little excited for this.

19. Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?

Wes’s song is Hey Jude, by the Beatles.

20. What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?

Do it in spite of the fear.
21. When you were little, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?

A librarian. Me and my sis pretended at this a lot as kids.
22. How did you know you should become an author?

Because my family/friends kept telling me to.

23. What's the craziest writing idea you've had?

Were-ligers. ß True story. I participated in a #StoryFrenzy panel at UtopYA con and we concocted this off-the-cuff story about were-ligers and were-cows and kept it going on Twitter. Just search the hashtag #Ligerbane and you’ll find the story as it was written, one tweet at a time. (and yes, I came up with that title. Hehe #genius)

24. What's the best advice anyone has ever given you?

Enjoy the journey.

25. Favorite Food?

Mexican
26. If you were a bird, which one would you be?

A Whip-poor-will. I loved its call outside my bedroom window as a child. I heard it so often, it became comforting. Like a nightlight or a favorite blanket.

27. If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?

Something by Cassie Clare, with an inscription that talks about how we’re BFFs. Legit Bffs, too. Not because I’m stalking her.

28. If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?

Overcame
29. What's your favorite season/weather?

Summer!!! I live about 2 miles from the beach. I love the water. Winter is simply Christmas—and then a countdown til summer.
30. How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?

Drank wine.
31. Favorite places to travel?

I went to Dominican Republic last month and it was AWESOME!
32. In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with?

Tehereh Mafi
33. What is your favorite scene in the book and why do you love it?

Favorite scene from the Dirty Blood series so far is in Cold Blood (book 2) where Tara kicks Alex in the man-parts and then they take a tumble down a very public hillside. Love, love, love it.
34. Favorite place?

My house ßhermit!

35. Best Christmas present?

My laptop
36. Nickname?

Feather
37. Favorite quote?

I’m not random, you just can’t think as fast as me.

Peanut M&Ms

Thanks for hosting me, the questions were great!
