Torn Together by Emyln Chand Blog Tour Review/Giveaway

About the book:
From her cheating boyfriend to her dead father and cold, judgmental mother
, Daly knows she can't trust others to be there when it counts. This cynicism begins to melt away when she meets Kashi, a light-hearted charmer from India, who decides he cares too much to let her fade into the background of her own life. After a series of false starts, their quirky romance carries them to India, where Daly must win the approval of Kashi's family in order to seal their "forever."

Meanwhile, Laine struggles to cope with the pain of early widowhood, fleeing into the pages of her well-worn library and emerging only to perform her duties as a social worker at the crisis pregnancy center. Although her daughter wants nothing more than to work as an artist, Laine doesn't know how to redirect Daly to a more suitable profession without further damaging their tenuous relationship.

Can Laine look past her pain to learn from an unlikely mentor? Has Daly finally found someone whom she can trust? Will the women recognize their common bonds before the relationship is broken beyond repair?

Torn Together, Emlyn Chand's first sojourn into Literary/Women's Fiction, illustrates how our similarities often drive us apart.

My thoughts:

When this tour came about, I couldn't help but want to review this book. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase a signed copy from the author when ordering other copies of her books. I love the author's writing style in this book. The characters were really well portrayed throughout this story of how to deal with grief. The trials and tribulations that each character goes through is monumental, but the author manages to keep the story line from becoming to heavy to enjoy. I loved all of the details about the trip to India, as foreign travel consumes my heart :) The ending was something that I did not see coming, but I'm glad that some of the issues between characters were resolved. I can't wait to read more from the author :)

Jane Whiteoak Book Blast/Giveaway

Thomas & the Lily Pond - Jane Whiteoak
Amazon Kindle US
Amazon Kindle UK
Genre - Children's Book
Rating - G
5.0 (7 reviews)

PREVENT BULLYING AND ENCOURAGE GOOD CHARACTER
If you are a parent or teacher concerned about your children and the effects of bullying, you will want to read Thomas and the Lily Pond.

Bullying has an enormous negative impact on our society. It can strike unexpectedly and it leaves millions of innocent victims completely bewildered and often ostracized through no fault of their own. The earlier we can alert our children to this unfortunate reality the better. It requires reaching out to them as soon as they can comprehend the meaning of the word bullying.

PERFECT FOR CHILDREN FOUR TO SIX YEARS OLD
Thomas and the Lily Pond is a book written for children from ages four to six years old. It specifically describes this issue, the signs leading up to it and the full impact bullying can have on the recipient. It is a fully illustrated story set in a forest, revolving around a very contented group of animals working and interacting together very amiably, until their world is quite literally turned upside down.
The cause of this upset is due to the arrival of an enormous frog who is decidedly devoid of any social mores. His primary target is the poor, hapless turtle named Thomas, a hard worker and also a very popular and valued member of the community, until he has the great misfortune of being confronted by this large, green, uninvited interloper.

Trust, betrayal, loyalty and manipulation are demonstrated and brought into question in Thomas and the Lily Pond. Friends of the docile turtle now turn on him. Included in this melange is a feisty skunk named Spike, who values his role as fierce protector of the forest, a vain blue jay, a chatterbox chickadee, a bounding rabbit with large, droopy ears and a very prickly porcupine, named Princeton. A deceitful plan is hatched and most of the trusting group forget about their true and loyal friend as they are all consumed by greed.

The whole scene is observed by Winston, the wise owl who sits and surveys all from his perch high up in the old oak tree. After a raging storm erupts and a potential disaster in very wild and rough water, the group is rescued by the least strident and innocent one of all.

WISDOM, POSITIVE INFLUENCES AND PITFALLS TO AVOID

There are many pearls of wisdom and many pitfalls to enlighten your child within this creatively illustrated and easy to understand story. By the conclusion, many questions will be up for discussion as to why some people do not have our best interests in mind, but rather, their motives are often driven by a self serving agenda. Children will recognize how easy it can be to lose sight of their own values and fall prey to others through great temptation and the influence and pressure of others.
In Thomas and the Lily Pond your child will see many examples of unacceptable behaviour that unfortunately and increasingly pervade our society. Through this recognition and understanding your child may be able to make a difference in the world.

This is a book parents can easily read to their child in its entirety, or enjoy and savour chapter by chapter as a bedtime story over the course of several evenings.

Martin the Christmas Mouse - Jane Whiteoak
Amazon Kindle US
Amazon Kindle UK
Genre - Children's Book
Rating - G
5.0 (1 review)
Martin the Christmas Mouse is a heartwarming story for children, ages 4-8 years old. The book is filled with large beautiful illustrations, depicting the comings and goings of a very helpful little mouse.

Martin lives in a tiny house with his parents and younger sister, Maria. It is Christmas time and they’ve been decorating the inside of their tiny abode. Their little place is set inside a larger home, owned by Mr. Kingsley. This kind and gentle man has no idea that he shares his residence with the mice! Martin runs freely, throughout both places, helping his parents and always looking after Mr. Kingsley, who is forgetful and also cannot see as well as he used to. He often can’t remember where he'd left his glasses, how many slices of bread he’d put on his plate for lunch or where he’d placed his socks! Martin, is very happy to help the kind man. He, assists in tying up the laces on Mr. Kingsley's boots correctly, locates a lost Christmas tree ornament and fixes a bit of misplaced holly, on the stairs.

With the arrival of Mr. Kingsley's familyon Christmas Eve, they'd all started to prepare for the much anticipated visit from Santa Claus and his reindeer! The little mouse joined in with the celebrations, including the singing of Christmas Carols. When it was close to the midnight hour, he scurried back to his little home and tiny bed, not expecting any gifts at all. His mother had explained to him, that Santa Claus, only visits the children of the world. Christmas morning arrives and the whole mouse family is in for a huge surprise!
The moral to Martin’s story is that rewards are usually bestowed upon those who do good deeds for others, most often they arrive from an entirely unsuspected source.

Bluff by Lenore Skomal Blog Tour Review

SYNOPSIS:
To the medical world, I was a host body, surviving only to bring a new life into the world. And while I wanted to die more than anything in the world, I never wanted this. No, I never wanted to cease to exist. This was the worst death of all.”

Jude Black lives in that in-between, twilight place teetering on death but clinging to life in order to bring her baby into this world. Only she knows the circumstances surrounding her mysterious fall off the bluff that landed her in the hospital being kept alive by medical intervention. Only she knows who the father of her baby is. In this poignantly crafted literary novel, the mystery unfolds and the suspense builds as the consequences of Jude’s decisions threaten to reveal everyone’s deceptions, even her own.

BLUFF offers a sensitive look at essential questions such as the value of human life, the consciousness of those in a coma and the morality of terminating life support. At the core is the story of a tragically misunderstood woman who finds peace, acceptance, understanding and even love on her deathbed.

MY THOUGHTS:
I'm not usually one to read romances, but the synopsis hooked me and I just couldn't resist! The unique writing style of the author is addictive, leaving you wanting to read more from her. I loved how she weaved the characters together. Even though she used multiple voices, I believe that it adds to the story line instead of detracting like some others. There are so many twists and turns in this book that you have a hard time seeing how the author is going to piece everything back together...but she does so masterfully! I love the main theme of the book, which is that it's the little things that count! While you may think that this is going to be a depressing book, it is FAR from it. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book :)

Needing a break from Boston, she moves to a tiny coastal North Carolina town for a relaxing summer. When the two give in to their impossible attraction, they realize that they may just have found the key to freeing themselves from the ghosts of their pasts.

Veer cover was designed by Once Upon a Time Covers
Release Date for Veer is: December 2012

INTERVIEW:
About the Book:

Give me the blurb for the book in 140 characters or less:

A Boston law student meets a sexy southern cop. Although they bump heads, they may just have found the key to freeing themselves from the ghosts of their pasts.
Do you have a favorite character? Why is he your favorite?
I love Gavin. I loved writing him in Derailed, and I just knew I’d have to give him his own book. He’s such a different type of male character. He’s strong and attractive, but he’s also vulnerable and flawed.

What do you hope readers will get from your book?

I hope readers will enjoy the romance and think about how even when life doesn’t work out the way you plan, there can still be something wonderful just waiting to happen.

About the Author:
What/Who inspires you?

I’m inspired by so many different things. My books are largely fueled by music, dreams, personal experiences, and the experiences of people I know. At the end of the day though, my family inspires me. I love discussing my book ideas with my husband, and I’m so excited to share my stories with my children when they get older.
Hardest aspect of writing? Best/Easiest?
The hardest part of writing for me is deciding what project to work on. I have so many ideas in my head, and it’s difficult to put some aside to focus on only a few at a time. I think that’s why I’m always working on two books at once. The best part of writing is sharing my stories with people. It’s such an amazing and rewarding experience.

Who is your writing hero?

I don’t have just one. The authors who made me want to write are Jane Austen and J.R.R. Tolkien.

About the Future:
What’s next for you?

Focus, the second book in my Mature YA/New Adult paranormal series (The Crescent Chronicles) is coming out in January. After that I’ll be releasing Enduring Light, the final book in my YA fantasy Afterglow Trilogy. My next release after that is a secret project I’ll be revealing soon.
One outrageous goal for the future?

I’d love to write the perfect new adult fantasy romance.
Do you have any advice you'd like to share with other aspiring writers?

Write what you love. Write books that you enjoy, and don’t be afraid to challenge yourself.

Randomness:
Sweet or salty?

Sweet. I have such a sweet tooth (Especially for chocolate)!

Beach, plains or mountains?

The Beach and Mountains are tied. I love the water and the mountains

Online, letters or in person?

In person. There’s nothing like a face to face conversation.
Ebook or print?

I can officially say I’ve converted into an Ebook person. I like having tons of books all in one place.

Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.

Birth by Janell Rhiannon Cover Reveal

Wisteria by Bisi Leyton Blog Tour Interview

Synopsis:
Sixteen year old Wisteria Kuti has two options—track the infected around the Isle of Smythe or leave the only known safe haven and face a world infested with flesh eating biters. But even with well-armed trackers, things go wrong and Wisteria ends up alone facing certain death, until she is rescued by the mysterious Bach. Uninfected, Bach is able to survive among the hordes of living dead.

Seventeen year old Bach, from a race known as The Family, has no interest in human affairs. He was sent here to complete his Great Walk and return home as a man—as a Sen Son. The Family regard humans as Dog People, but Bach is drawn to this Terran girl, whom he has never seen before, but somehow knows.

Hunted by flesh eaters, cannibals, and the mysterious blood thirsty group called Red Phoenix, Wisteria and Bach make their way back to the Isle of Smythe, a community built on secrets and lies.

Interview:
1. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

The thing is sometimes I get so caught up in a scene that I just can’t seem to stop myself. I tend to write everywhere when I’m on a roll, even written in the bathroom.

2. Night owl, or early bird?

I’d definitely a night owl although I seem to be most effective if I start writing first thing in the morning. I just love my sleep way too much.

3. One food you would never eat?

Cucumbers, I’ve hated them since I was a kid and I’d rather not eat then eat those. Even writing about them is making me feel it.

4. Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?

I’m finishing up the third book in the Wisteria series which I hope to get out early 2013, but in the mean the second book Myopia is out.

I’m also outlining my next series which will be another YA paranormal romance. This one will be based on Abikus from Yoruba folklore. This book will be more intense than the Wisteria series and more overtly magical.

5. What inspired you to want to become a writer?

I’ve always have vivid imagination and used to fantasize about all kind of scenarios as a child, but it wasn’t until I got to college that I realised I was actually good at writing short stories. My college English Literature instructor made me finally believe I could write something that people wanted to read (outside of my family).

6. What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?

I have loved and still love anything by Roald Dahl. In many ways he inspired me to be a writer.

I was also very much into Sweet Valley High, but my parents never bought me those kinds of books, so I had make up my own stories.
