Zombified by Lyra McKen Blog Tour Cover Reveal

The Excerpt
“Cassie, wake up.” He stood back up over me as I sat up and rubbed my eyes.

I noticed that Ted was not with him, and he looked defeated as he sat down on the floor beside me. I crawled over to wrap my arms around him, and he looked surprised at first but then he put his arm around me and we were silent for a little while.

“We are going to have to move soon.” Brett was speaking quietly as he rubbed my arm. “He knows where we are, so when he wakes up, he may come for us. I was too late to help him.”

I did not know how long Brett had been gone, but I assumed by his tone that he had found his friend in very bad shape. It scared me that if he turned into one of them then he would know where we were. I sighed as I leaned my head on Brett’s shoulder. Something struck me as odd as I inhaled his scent. I thought that he smelled tasty.

Tasty! I was alarmed. He smelled good, but tasty was not something that should describe my crush. Something bad was happening to me, and I could keep trying to fight it, but as I glanced at my finger, I knew in the back of my mind it was only going to get worse.

He was looking at me while I was having all these thoughts, and he was too close for comfort. He smiled as he took my face in his hands and brought his lips to mine. It was everything I had hoped for in our first kiss. There were fireworks, and my whole body felt alive. I allowed him to ease me down onto the tarp and welcomed his body weight on top of me. This felt right and I wanted him all over me just like this. I had dreamed of this moment countless times and it was finally happening.

Our kisses became more urgent, and he moved one hand down to slide up my shirt. I heard a low growl come from somewhere within me. Something wasn’t right. It happened very quickly, but before I knew it, I had reared back and bitten into his chin hard. He cried out in severe pain, and tried to push me off of him, but I was latched on. I felt the skin break in my mouth, and felt my hunger as I ripped the skin away from his face. When I realized what I had done, I was horrified.

I stood back thinking of how I could remedy the situation. He sat there with blood pouring from his face and a hurt look in his eyes. All I could think of was one word: tasty. I had to get out of there. What the hell had I done? How many times had I pictured my lips near his, and I manage to get them there by biting his face off? I had to get as far away from him as possible. I ran out the entrance and into the school hall. Tears were streaming down my cheeks as I contemplated where to go. I was changing into one of those monsters.

I had literally bitten my crush’s face off!

First Frost by Liz DeJesus Blog Tour Character Interview

For generations, the Frost family has run the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts, handing down guardianship from mother to daughter, always keeping their secrets to “family only.”

Gathered within museum’s walls is a collection dedicated to the Grimm fairy tales and to the rare items the family has acquired: Cinderella’s glass slipper, Snow White’s poisoned apple, the evil queen’s magic mirror, Sleeping Beauty’s enchanted spinning wheel…

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Frost wants none of it, dreaming instead of a career in art or photography or…well, anything except working in the family’s museum. She knows the items in the glass display cases are fakes because, of course, magic doesn’t really exist.

She’s about to find out how wrong she is.

Author Liz DeJesus has stopped by today with a character interview of Bianca for the First Frost Blog Tour :)

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Bianca Frost. I’m seventeen years old. I work part time at the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts with my parents and I recently discovered that I’m a witch. Yeah….that is still taking me some time to get used to. And here’s the kicker…my great-great-great grandmother was Snow White. As in THE Snow White. Yeah…still trying to get used to that too.

What is your most treasured possession?

A sock monkey puppet that my father and I made when I was seven years old.

When and where were you the happiest?

I don’t know if I can choose one exact moment but my parents took me to the aquarium once when I was little and I loved watching the stingrays. They were so odd, yet graceful. I dunno, it was just something that caused quite an impression on me at that moment in time. It was one of the few times I’ve ever felt at peace.

What is it that you most dislike?

Reality TV. God, don’t even get me started on Jersey Shore.

What is your greatest fear?

Losing a family member or a friend because of a mistake I made. Or anyone getting hurt because of me.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I spend most of my allowance on candy. I LOVE CANDY. Especially chocolate, gummy bears and sour patch kids. Although I have tried chocolate covered gummy bears and I could feel myself getting diabetes so I won’t be having those any time soon. Another thing I spend money on is music and DVD’s.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I wish I could sing. I can hold a tune just fine, but it’s not something anyone wants to hear…EVER. But Ming can sing, she has a beautiful voice. I can totally see her being a pop-star sometime in the future.

Where would you like to live?

I have no idea. I’m not really thinking that far ahead in the future. I would like to travel though. See the world. Definitely want to go to Ireland. That’s on the top of my list. Other places I want to visit are Italy, France, Spain, and Japan.

What do you most value in your friends?

Honesty. I couldn’t have someone in my life that could lie to me.

Which living person do you most admire?

That’s easy. My mom…because she’s awesome. I wish I could be kinder sometimes. She’s so gentle with everyone she meets, especially children and animals. Seriously, she even talks to the trees. Which is why she has a green thumb and can make anything bloom. Yet I have the black thumb of doom. I kill plants. I either forget to water them or water them too much.

On what occasions do you lie?

I try to avoid it at all costs. My tongue gets this weird ashy taste every time I even try to lie. And I also have this bad habit of blushing every time so it’s a dead giveaway, so I don’t even bother with that any more. Waste of time and not worth it.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

Probably ‘like’, ‘you know’ and ‘I dunno’.

Why should the readers be interested in your story?

It has everything: fairy tales, witches, magic, action, romance and smart ass remarks by yours truly.

Thank you for being with us today, Bianca.

My pleasure. It’s been fun! To all you nice people reading this, for more information about First Frost please visit us on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/FirstFrost1

Soul Sisters by Janiera Eldridge Blog Tour Interview

Synopsis:
Soul Sisters is an urban fantasy novel about African-American twin sisters Ani and Dana who have a rather unique secret: one sister is human while the other is a vampire. While the sisters have lived peacefully with each other for many years one fateful night will change both their lives forever. When a drunken man tries to attack Dana (the human sister) Ani (the vampire sister) protects her sister with all of her ferocious power.

However, when the vampire’s leader Donovan finds out about the public display he calls for the sisters to be assassinated for disobedience. Ani and Dana now are in for the fight of their lives to protect each other as well as the lives of their dedicated friends who have joined them on their mission for survival. If Dana and Ani can make it through this time of uncertainty, Ani can take her new place as vampire queen. Soul Sisters is expected to be a trilogy; The book also features a multicultural cast of characters that brings a new edge of chic to the vampire world.

An Interview With Ani (The Vampire Sister)
What's the most important thing in your life? What do you value most?

My sister is the most important thing in my life and I would do anything for her. I was created to serve and protect her and that is what I pledge to do. I love her so much and If I saved her life once I wouldn’t think twice about doing it again. I value my sister and my fellow vampire family members. I’ll do just about anything to make sure they’re being well taken care of. Whoever is in the way…. well I just hope they won’t get into the middle of it.

What do you consider your special talent?

I read minds. You would think it would be a little torturous but it isn’t. Man is it useful! Like right now, I know you nervous reading about me. You want to know what kind of bloody secrets I got for you. Maybe, I’ll share them with you. It is a little hard to read a vampire’s mind because they can easily shut me out. However, getting into the mind of a human is a piece of cake!

How do you fall in love? At first sight? Over a long period?

I’ve only been in love once. I don’t think I can love anyone more than I love Diego. We fell in love instantly after meeting in Spain. I’m not going to lie, after our split I’ve been with plenty of men. They’re drawn to me and what women wouldn’t take advantage of that? I’ve never loved another the way I loved him though. I’m convinced now I never will.

When you walk into a room, what do you expect people to notice about you?

This is going to sound extremely cocky and I don’t mean anything by it but, people usually notice how perfect I am. How smooth and perfect my face is (even with no makeup), my black curls are perfect, my nails are always naturally manicured. It makes some people gravitate toward me however; a lot of people are put off by it. I think they’re aware that I’m anything but normal but they just can’t seem look away. I loooove the attention. It’s a perk of the vampire life.

What do you consider are your weaknesses?
Sweet blood and silver. It is a cruel twist of faith that innocent people have the sweetest blood. I try to only feed off of the scum of the earth but you know, every now and then I slip up. Silver won’t kill me but…. how do I say this? It’s my kryptonite! It will render me weak if I touch it, it will give me permanent scars. I’d be just fine if I never saw silver ever again!

What really moves you, or touches you to the soul?
I love violins! I listen to classical music all of the time and the sound of a whimsical violin never fail to bring me to bloody tears. Although, I am forced to stifle those bloody tears because well, it would make for a strange spectacle.

Thanks so much for having me. These secrets will stay just between you and me right? I wouldn’t want to have to do a follow up interview…

In Flames by Elissa Daye Blog Tour Guest Post

The Roads I’ve Traveled
By Elissa Daye

Reading started me down the path to writing. I was an avid reader from the moment I could read my first words. I read everything I could get my hands on. I loved reading and escaping into other worlds. My favorite books when I was a child were written by C.S. Lewis, Judy Blume, and Jean Craighead George. I very much wanted to live on my own and survive in the forest.

As a writer, I started early. In second grade I remember getting a notebook as a prize from a teacher and I started writing poetry where every line had to rhyme. Something like “The little kitten lay, fast asleep in the hay.” In Middle School I constantly entered the Young Authors contests with my poetry. I remember when my mom attended a parent teacher conference for 8th grade. My English teacher told her how impressed she was with my writing and told her that I wrote like a 20 year old. It was the best compliment I had ever received at the time and it made me want to do even better.

When I entered high school I started writing short stories, mostly for school assignments. By the time I was a junior in high school, my English teacher encouraged me to enter for a chance to attend the Illinois Summer School for the Arts. At that point in time I had already been writing longer short stories, one of them being a ghost story, which I entered as an example of my writing. I won a scholarship to attend the two week summer camp and had the time of my life. That summer allowed a whole new door to open for me, and while my journey through that portal has not been without challenge, it has certainly been worth it.

The Destined Series started after I had completed my first two books, and while it was not the first completed, it had been in my head for many years. First it was a series of scenes that I thought would work well together. Then I discovered that there really were no limitations for what I wanted to do. A story with magic? Absolutely, no problem. Add some werewolves? Ok, why not? A steamy love story? Of course, what other kind is there? When I let go of all my preconceived notions of what should and could be involved in a romance novel, writing it was easy. It was passionate, it was uplifting, and it was freeing.

In Flames is the first in the series, and perhaps the easiest to write, for the beginning is just a starting point in the world. Connecting each story and growing the world in each has been more of a challenge. Each book has to be able to build on the other and stand on its own. With book one, I introduce Lysandra, who enters the story with pretty much the worst case scenario thrown at her from the beginning. She channels the power of love through her journey and becomes quite a striking heroine. Aiden is our love interest, a man who really has no interest in love at all. He lives with the curse of his people, a curse that becomes a blessing in disguise.

In Flames is just the first leg of the journey. My goal is to create a diverse series that shows the empowerment of women, and how the world could work in balance. I hope that my readers will appreciate these stories and get a break from their world, if only for a moment.

Biography
Ever since childhood, I have enjoyed reading stories as an escape from life. When I was a teenager I started to write my own stories that kept me entertained whenever I ran out of books to read. When I was accepted into Illinois Summer School for the Arts in my Junior year of High School, I knew I wanted to become a writer. I graduated from Illinois State University in December 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and began my teaching career, hoping to find moments to write in my free time.

After seven years of teaching, I decided to focus on my writing and made the decision to put my teaching years behind me so that I could create the stories I had always dreamed of. I am now happily married and a stay at home mom. I try my best to master the art of multitasking to get everything accomplished and write in any spare moment I can find.

In Flames by Elissa Daye Blog Tour Interview/Giveaway

Please tell us about your novel

What inspired you to write it?
Sometimes it’s a moment in time, an image that gets trapped inside my mind, or my imagination takes over. I come up with a general idea and then start to imagine how it works, where it will go, and how to get there. Sometimes I like to write in absolute silence, sometimes with music blasting. I never know what my muse needs all the time, but once I figure it out the words seem to flow freely.

Who is your favorite character and why?
Lysandra is definitely my favorite character in this book. Her passion for life, despite her troubled circumstances drives the story forward. She finds the ability to not only love Aiden, but to find the power of love within herself, a power tied directly to the Adrianic magic that is handed down to every woman of Lena.

What made you decide to write a book?
I’ve had scenes stuck in my mind for years, of what I would write if I wrote a romance novel. This book gave me a chance to get some of those scenes out. When I realized the freedom of creating characters that knew magic or shapeshifted, the whole story became even more exciting. There really aren’t the same limitations on the romance genre that their used to be.

Who are the writers that inspire you the most?
This question is hard to answer, as my favorite authors have changed over the years. As a child, I loved C.S. Lewis, Jean Craighead George, and Judy Blume. I absolutely love J.K. Rowling and respect the change she has brought to the literary world for children. Right now though, I would have to say that my colleagues inspire me. Those that have come before me and ushered me through this process, they have my utmost respect. A big shout out to Joann H. Buchanan, author of Soulless Light, I Am Wolf, and The Kiss. She has been with me over this year, holding my hand and helping me realize that the dream is not so difficult to achieve if the right amount of effort is put forward.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration, sometimes it’s fleeting, especially if your engine is running on low. For me I get inspiration from those around me who support my dreams to become better with each book. I see my fellow writers putting out book after book. These same people encourage you to keep going.

If you were an animal what would you be and why?
I’m a wolf of course. I can’t decide if I want to be a golden wolf like one of my characters of In Flames, or a white wolf who comes later in the third book. But a wolf, nonetheless. Wolves are majestic creatures, very loyal to their pack, and fierce protectors of their own. Wild and playful, simple and true. These animals have gone through so much destruction and annihilation that their mere presence almost haunts the forest.

What is your fave food?
Well, right now anything that sounds appetizing. I’m actually expecting my second child who is so finicky that I really don’t get to decide what is my favorite food at this point in time. I will be happy when I can start making those choices by myself. Although, I will say ice cream never seems to fail. Sometimes fruity, sometimes chocolate.

What is the one writing tip you want to pass on to others?
Never give up. Keep working on your book until you have polished it to the best of your capabilities. Get a good set of beta readers who will tell you where the problem areas are. Don’t settle for someone who is going to pat you on the back, stroke your ego, and not tell you what needs work. When they have reviewed your work and have given you things to edit, do it, but then go back again and read your story. It is necessary to read your book almost to the point where you are tired of reading it. Then, and only then, can you step away for a moment. If you do not do these things, getting published is going to be so much harder for you.

You have the floor, what is the one thing you want to pass on?
Be happy with any amount of words you get written each day. Celebrate ANY amount of progress. Get involved with people who can lead you in the direction you want to go. Never give up on your dreams.

Destine by Katherine Polillo Blog Tour Guest Post

Book Blurb:
Michelle Cross is an average, seventeen year old girl growing up in a small town in New Jersey. Up until her senior year, her life has consisted of a rather unglamorous existence, until a handsome new boy finds her at school. Little by little Michelle’s world is turned upside down. Guest Post:
Hello everyone, I’m author Katherine Polillo and my first book, Destine, will be available in eBook format through amazon.com on August 8th. I was wondering what I could do for a guest blog post, and I was at a loss. What I decide was that I would share some of my favorite songs that I listen to while writing. Granted this is a small selection, but it’s a fair statement to say that these are some of my favorites that help get my creative juices flowing.

You can obviously tell rather quickly that I am a huge Weezer fan, and proud of it. Also I will go on record as saying I enjoy country music. I know that statement is blasphemy in some circles, but it’s what I grew-up listening to. Upon writing that statement I now realize I have left off all my beloved Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn music. Perhaps best to wrap this up before the list becomes my entire iTunes library. Hope you enjoy!

Author Bio:
Katherine Polillo originally planned to grow-up and run away with the circus, but after realizing that she had a debilitating fear of heights that squashed her dreams of being a tight ropewalker, she instead pursued a career in education. She currently teaches high school history and fabricates fictional stories in her free time. She never really out grew her imaginary friends stage, and instead has created lives and stories for the creations of her imagination to live in. When she is present in reality and not off on an adventure with her imaginary friends, she lives in a small, New Jersey town with her husband and their two spoiled rotten, ungrateful cats.

At What Cost by J. Andersen Blog Tour Review

Synopsis:
During her junior year, sixteen-year-old Maggie Reynolds expected to shop for prom dresses not maternity clothes. Now, instead of studying for the SATs, she’s reading, What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Maggie’s ‘Mother Dearest’ lives in fear that Maggie will somehow taint the family name, so Maggie can’t turn to her for help. Meanwhile, her father is oblivious to anything but his 9-9 job. And her boyfriend, Justin? She’s pretty sure he’ll stay by her side.

While Maggie wrestles with her options, Justin offers a solution: abortion. It would solve all her problems quickly, easily, and effectively. And her parents would never know, which means they won’t throw her out and cut her off like they’d always threatened if she got herself knocked up. Now Maggie must decide which choice she can live with: abortion or teenage motherhood. Either way, it’ll be a tough road to travel.

My thoughts:

Oh what to say about this book without a spoiler!! When I was first asked to do this book tour, I could not help but want to read the book. I'm glad that I did. The story line was well developed and the characters were easy to relate with. I was impressed with the editing and loved the author's writing style. I would recommend this book to anyone contemplating the topic of the book :)

About the Author:

J. Andersen lives in a small town in Western New York with her husband and three kids. When she says small town, she means REALLY small. A former English teacher, she now spends her time writing while the kids are at school and the baby is sleeping. When she's not writing, she volunteers at the local library, sings in the church band and takes her kids to their various activities. It's a busy life.

The Godling Chronicles by Brian D. Anderson Blog Tour Interview

Hello all!! I'm today's stop in Brian and Jonathan's blog tour. I have asked them a few questions, so sit back, relax, and get to know them a little better :)

About the Book:
Give me the blurb for the book in 140 characters or less:
An action packed fantasy advernture for readers of all ages. I hope you love reading about the world of The Godling Chronicles as much as I've enjoyed writing it.

Do you have a favorite character? Why is he your favorite?
Jonathan - Gewey. He's not afraid to stand up to evil
Brian - As for me, I like Lee Starfinder. His impulsive nature reminds me of myself.

What do you hope readers will get from your book?
Brian - I just want them to enjoy the story. That's all. Whe Book One was written there were no hidden meanings, or obscure symbolisms. I only hoped for the reader to have a great time.

About the Authors:
What/Who inspires you?
Jonathan - Fun stories like Percy Jackson and Harry Potter.
Brian - My son is my biggest inspiration. Without him, none of this would be possible.

Hardest aspect of writing? Best/Easiest?
Brian - Hardest - Keeping track of things. By the time I was in the middle of writing Book Two (due out in Nov.) I realized how big the story had become. As there will be at least three more, I see that become an ever increasing challenge.
Easiest - I guess I'd have to say writing is easy when things click. Sometimes I sit down and it's effortless...of course sometimes not so much.

Who is your writing hero?
Brian - J.R.R. Tolkien. To me the most brilliant literary mind of the 20th century.I'm still blown away but his work, even though I've read it many times.

About the Future:
What’s next for you?
Brian - The Godling Chronicles - Book Two: Of Gods and Elves, is in editing and due out in November of this year. I'm currently writing The Godling Chronicles - Book Three: The Gathering, and hope to have the first draft completed in a few months.

Do you have any advice you'd like to share with other aspiring writers?
Brian - Worry more about your characters and story, and less about how well you write. That's what editors are for. You can clean up your prose with editing and practice, but there is no substitute for a great story.

Randomness:
Sweet or salty?
Joanthan-Sweet
Brian-Sweet

Beach, plains or mountains?
Jonathan-Moutains
Brian-Beach

Online, letters or in person?
Jonathan-All of the above
Brian-In person

Ebook or print?
Jonathan-print
Brian-print

Here are the authors. Aren't they handsome?? ;)

Cora Flash and the Diamond of Madagascar by Tommy Davey Blog Tour Review

Cora Flash and the Diamond of Madagascar

Synopsis:
Eleven-year-old Cora Flash is ecstatic when she finally convinces her mom to let her take a train ride by herself to visit a relative in the mountains. Once on board, Cora meets a cast of intriguing characters, and stumbles upon her very own mystery: A valuable diamond has gone missing, and only one of her fellow travellers could have stolen it. It's up to our novice detective to solve the crime before the train reaches its destination – or the thief reaches Cora. This is the first book in the 'Cora Flash' series.
Ages 9-12

My thoughts:
When I signed up for this tour, I couldn't help but want to review this book. This middle grade book is a great modern version of the whodunit books I read as a kid. The author creates a story detailed enough to keep the attention of older readers, but short enough to allow younger readers to keep up. I loved the fast paced, witty story line and can't wait to read more from the author. I would recommend this book children 5-10 years old :)

Tommy Davey
About the Author:

Tommy Davey spent his youth writing mystery stories and plays, and watching reruns of Three's Company until every line of dialogue was permanently burned into his memory. When not writing, he enjoys traveling to favorite destinations including New York City and Paris, which he plans to feature in future stories. He lives in Toronto, where he was born and raised, with a Norfolk Terrier named Calvin.

Nocturnal/Nightmare by Chelsea Cameron Noctalis Blog Tour Reviews/Scavenger Hunt

Nocturnal Synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Ava-Claire Sullivan isn't one for doing the expected. Especially when she finds out her mother's cancer is terminal. After a crying session in the local cemetery where she's attacked by one strange guy and saved by another, she doesn't call the cops. Because those guys definitely weren't your average hooligans.

And the one who sort-of saved her? Well, he's odd. He doesn't seem to breathe or smile or have anything better to do than wait in the cemetery for Ava to come back. Which she does. Call it morbid curiosity. Even after he warns her that he's dangerous, she can't stop wanting to see him, talk to him, be with him.

There's something about Peter that provides a much-needed escape from her mother's diagnosis and her tenuous relationship with her father. Even her best friends Jamie and Texas don't know what it's like to face death. But Peter does. He already has. He also made a promise a long time ago that could destroy both of them.

When everything in your life is falling apart, what are you willing to give up to hold onto the one thing that could last forever?

Nocturnal Review:
All I have to say is talk about throwing all the curve ball out there right at the beginning! I think the start of this book was the most emotionally intense scene that I have read as a first chapter. Holy moly! The first lines grabbed me and had me locked on for the duration. There is no turning back once you read that first paragraph! You just can't! It's impossible! Now...onto the story itself... I really loved the story line, the writing style of the author, and the descriptions that she gave throughout the book. The choice of characters was interesting and had me wondering what was going to be introduced in Book 2 once I was nearing the end. If you're looking for a fast paced, interesting read, THIS is the series for you!

Nightmare (The Noctalis Chronicles, #2)Nightmare Synopsis:
Ava-Claire Sullivan still doesn't follow the rules. She shouldn't have let Peter Claim her, turning her into his own personal blood bank. She shouldn't have told Tex Peter was immortal because now her best friend won't shut up about hooking up with Peter's equally immortal brother, Viktor. And she shouldn't have fallen in love with Peter.

Too late.

Sometimes, love kills. One promise Peter made nearly a hundred years ago could do it. A kiss, a touch could be the end of him. So all she has to do is not let him fall in love with her. Easier said than done.

But Ava's going to find a way for him to be free, even if it kills her. Or makes her immortal. There's no way she's losing Peter in addition to her mother. No freaking way.

What would you do when the one you love would die if they loved you back?

Nightmare Review:
I was lucky enough to be able to read this book and the first in the series back to back. After the ending in Nocturnal, I don't think I could have waited for Nightmare to come out. The author is most definitely the "Cliffhanger Queen" during this series! Book 1 had me chomping at the bit waiting for the few hours until I could read Book 2 and now it has me waiting for Book 3! There is so much action in this series that I can hardly contain my excitement as I'm writing this. I'm so in love with this series that I'm finding it really hard not to give spoilers for this review! So I guess all I will say is that if you don't even attempt to pick up Nocturnal, you are just downright crazy! You won't be able to resist Nightmare...trust me on this one ;)
